An RV macerator pump can move waste through a smaller discharge hose than a traditional gravity sewer hose. Exact operation varies by pump, so always follow the pump and RV manufacturer’s instructions.
Before connecting
- Wear appropriate disposable gloves and follow sanitary handling practices.
- Confirm the discharge destination is legal and approved for RV waste.
- Inspect hoses, fittings and electrical connections for damage.
- Verify the pump’s voltage, duty-cycle and hose-length requirements.
General operating sequence
- Secure the discharge hose at the approved sewer connection.
- Connect the macerator system according to its instructions.
- Open and operate valves only in the sequence specified by the RV/pump manufacturer.
- Monitor the pump continuously. Never allow a pump that is not designed for dry running to run dry.
- Rinse/flush the system according to manufacturer instructions.
- Disconnect carefully and store sanitation equipment separately from fresh-water equipment.
Common problems
Reduced flow can result from restrictions, excessive hose length or lift, low voltage, a blocked inlet, or pump wear. Stop the pump before investigating a suspected blockage.
